With the can­cel­la­tion of the Tour of Qatar, Tour of Oman will this year see some celebrity rid­ers com­pete in the race with the likes of Alexan­der Kristoff and Fabio Aru

Times of Oman MUSCAT: One of Oman’s most an­tic­i­pated an­nual events, the Tour of Oman will start on Tues­day from Al Sawadi beach at 11am with 144 rid- ers dis­trib­uted in eight teams. Or­gan­ised as part of the Muscat Fes­ti­val by the Muscat Mu­nic­i­pal­ity, the race will be held in six stages across six days (Fe­bru­ary 14 to 19) cov­er­ing a dis­tance of 885 km. The start­ing point is Al Sawadi beach and the fin­ish point by the end of day six is Mut­trah cor­niche.

Celebrity rid­ers

With the can­cel­la­tion of the Tour of Qatar, Tour of Oman will this year see some celebrity rid­ers com­pete in the race with the likes of Alexan­der Kristoff and Fabio Aru. Two teams from the GCC are also taking part- Bahrain- Merida from Bahrain and UAE Abu Dhabi from the United Arab Emi­rates.
This is the eighth edi­tion of the race and will be broad­cast on 180 chan­nels in dif­fer­ent part of the world.
Oman TV will live broad­cast the race for four hours each day on all the six days. Thirty in­ter­na­tional me­dia per­sons will be cov­er­ing the event all through.

Chal­leng­ing

Cy­clists are lov­ing Oman’s rugged ter­rain and scenic lo­ca­tions which although chal­leng­ing of­fer some lovely com­pe­ti­tion in the best land­scapes.
A 5.7km climb is also sched­uled at the Green Moun­tains (Ja­bal Akhdar) of Oman. race will be held in six stages across six days (Fe­bru­ary 14 to 19) cov­er­ing a dis­tance of 885 kilo­me­tres.
